Future Unfiltered: A Listening Tour for Aging Caregivers

It's hard to find care options for people with disabilities.

If you're a parent or sibling of an adult with disabilities, you already know this all too well. The stress of planning for the future, navigating confusing systems, and making sure your loved one has the care they need can feel overwhelming.

As time moves forward, so do the realities of aging. You may have thought, “I’ll figure this out later,” but now later has arrived. Whether it’s a recent health scare, the loss of a caregiver, or just the realization that you can’t do this forever, you’re at a point where action is necessary—but the options feel limited, the system feels impossible, and the road ahead feels unclear.

That’s why I’m hosting the Future Unfiltered Listening Tour.

What Is the Future Unfiltered Listening Tour?

This is not a workshop. It’s not a webinar. It’s not another information session where you get handed a confusing brochure and sent on your way.

It’s an opportunity to talk.

Aging parents and siblings need real solutions for long-term care, emergency Medicaid waivers, self-direction (PDS), and building a sustainable care team. But before solutions can be developed, I need to hear directly from you.

Through a 1:1 conversation, you’ll have the space to share:

✅ The biggest challenges you face in securing long-term care for your loved one
✅ What’s missing in Kentucky’s disability services that would actually help families
✅ What concerns, frustrations, and roadblocks are making planning so difficult

This is your chance to be heard and to shape the future of disability and aging services in Kentucky.

Who This Is For?

This listening tour is for families who are feeling the weight of planning for their loved one’s future. If you’ve ever asked yourself:

What happens when I’m no longer here?

How do I set my child up for success without me?

Why is this system so hard to navigate?

Where do I even start?

You are not alone.

This is for:

🔹 Aging parents planning for their adult child’s future care and housing
🔹 Siblings stepping into caregiving roles and feeling unprepared
🔹 Families struggling with the SCL waiver, PDS, Medicaid, and caregiver recruitment
🔹 Anyone stuck in red tape and needing a clear path forward

Why Now?

Most families wait until a crisis to make a plan. But the reality is that waiting limits your options. The earlier you start, the better chance you have to secure care, funding, and a sustainable plan.

For families in Kentucky, the Supports for Community Living (SCL) waiver can provide full-time care, for your loved one—but the approval process is complex.

Did you know that accessing disability services doesn't mean your loved one has to move to a group home?

You can use services help you loved one live their best life at home and control over who you pay to provide support, but too many families don’t know how to make it work for them. Caregiver recruitment is possible, but finding the right people feels exhausting.

This listening tour is aimed at identifying the areas families struggle with and develop solutions to help that can be available as early as spring 2025!
